Notes: Introduction consisting of general observations on the Cree language includes a table comparing examples of phonetic variation in the speech of “Cris proprement dits... Athabascaw... Cris des Bois... Cris du Labrador... Maskégons... Algonquins et Sauteux” (p. [v]-xx). The main French-Cree (p. [1]-274) and Cree-French (p. [279]-663) dictionaries include detailed semantic and syntactic notes and are followed by: a list of kinship terms (p. [664]-672); names of body parts (p. 672-680); a list of Cree word roots with examples of formations and French equivalents (p. 681-704); an etymological list of geographical and tribal designations (p. [705]-711); the Apostles’ Creed and the Ten Commandments in parallel columns of Cree and French (p. [712-713]). Includes “Carte du Nord-Ouest” showing most of Canada with the locations of 38 missions, both Catholic and Protestant, as well as “Postes de la Compagnie de la Baie d’Hudson” and with an inset “Plan de l’Etablissment de la Rivière Rouge” JCB copy bound as first item of 2 with the author's “Grammaire de la langue des Cris”, Montreal, 1874.
