Without a title page. One of 50 copies of manuscript facsimile and letterpress material printed at the request of the compiler, Buckingham Smith. Includes 6 sheets of printed Spanish texts, 2 sheets of ms. facsimiles in Apalachee and 1 facsimile sheet in Timuqua. Title extracted from the compiler’s presentation note on a copy given to Peter Force and examined by J.C. Pilling. The texts are widely known from Pilling’s description, and from facsimile copies made from the Peter Force copy. Other presentation copies inscribed by Buckingham Smith were given to Mary Sparks, George W. Riggs, Jr., Henry C. Murphy, and others. Includes text of a letter to the king by the governor Diego de Quiroga y Losada dated 1 April 1688; a letter addressed to the governor, dated 19 Feb. 1688, by Marçelo de S. Joseph (who translated a letter from the Apalachee caciques into Spanish); facsimile of the original letter in Apalachee; translation of the letter into Spanish; letter to the governor dated 17 Feb. [1]688 from Francisco de Roxas (who translated a letter from the Timucua caciques into Spanish); facsimile of the original letter in Timucua; translation of the letter into Spanish.
