Notes: Following chapter XV is “Some further Account of the Esquimaux of Melville Peninsula and the adjoining Islands: more particularly Winter Island and Igloolik” (p. 492-558), containing remarks on pronunciation, noun formation, verb conjugations, prepositions, gestural communication, numerals 1-10, temporal and calendrical terms, and colors (p. 551-558). A “Vocabulary of Eskimo words and sentences” (p. [550]-569) lists over 500 terms in English alphabetical order with Esquimo/Inuit equivalents. Numerous other terms for artefacts and customs appear passim throughout the section, which also contains a sample of Eskimo song with lyrics and musical notation (p. 542).
