Notes: Ms. codex. Leaf [2] recto, 1st count, is an added title page and is written entirely in Guarani, reading: Qvatia poromboè marangatv tetiron gatvbaè cunumbuçu upe y quabeembi , angaypa hegui yñepihĩro hagua: haè tupa gracia reromano hagua rano [some accents have been left out due to the impossibility of formatting them]. Headings of text are either in Spanish or Guarani; text is predominantly in Guarani; some caption titles of sermons on leaves 1-73, 3rd count, are in Latin. This manuscript cannot be positively attributed to any one author, though it is suspected the author was a Jesuit working with the Guarani. However, it is has been conjectured by research conducted by the bookseller that the author could have likely been the Jesuit fathers Antonio Ruiz de Montoya, Paulo Restivo, or Cristóval Altamirando [or Altamirano]. It is noted in the accompanying bibliographic material the similarities of this manuscript and another entitled "Compendio de la doctrina Cristiana para niños. Compuesto en lengua francesa por el R.P. Francisco Pomeij, de la Compañia de Jesus. Y traducido en lengua guarani por el padre Cristoval de Altamirando [or Altalmirano] de la misma Compañia" which is cited by Furlong in his Glorias Santafesinas, Buenos Aires, 1929, which reproduces the title page and the first page of this manuscript and has identical calligraphic characteristics, which means that the same hand could have prodiced the work, whom according to Furlong, could have been an indigenous Guarani. The "Compendio de la doctrina Cristiana para niños" manuscript has been published in facsimile in São Paulo by the Seccão Gráfica da Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras da Universidade de São Paulo, 1956. Place of publication cannot be determined. The Guarani Indians lived in the center of South America, in what are now the modern countries of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Bolivia. Recto and verso of first front flyleaf contain a table of contents. "Indice de los sermones": ms. table of contents of rear pastedown. "El texto de la doctrina Christiana en lengua guarani", leaves 1-130, 2nd count, consists of various texts and spiritual exercises. "Passion ...": leaves 1-73, 3rd count, contains various sermons.
