Translation, by Manuel Machon, of: A description of Patagonia, and the adjoining parts of South America: containing an account of the soil, produce, animals, vales, mountains, rivers, lakes, &c. of those countries; the religion, government, policy, customs, dress, arms, and language of the Indian inhabitants; and some particulars relating to Falkland's islands by Thomas Falkner, first printed in London, in 1774. "Razon de idioma de los moradores de estos paises", p. [234-257], includes grammatical observations, rules and examples regarding nouns, pronouns, adverbs, and verbs in the Moluche dialect of the Mapuche language; vocabulary is also included as well as a list of over eighty terms with their Spanish equivalents. Also given are brief specimens with parallel Spanish translations of the sign of the cross, the beginning of the Lord's prayer, and the beginning of the Doctrina Christiana. A Spanish translation of the author's Description of Patagonia, and the adjoining parts of South America was printed as Descripcion de Patagonia y de las partes adyacentes de la America Meridional, in Buenos Aires, in 1835. However, the version of the manuscript used for that publication was not the same as this copy of the manuscript, although the translator was given as Manuel Machon.
