Notes: Ms. codex. This manuscript is an 18th century copy of the original 1620 or 1621 manuscript written on rice paper, probably in the Philippine Islands, perhaps in Manila. This work is written almost entirely in the Spanish language aside from one single example of baybayin characters on leaf 8 recto. Lopez was a missionary of the Order of St. Augustine. He published the 'Doctrina Christiana' of Cardinal Bellarmino into Iloca: Libro anaisuratan amin ti bagas ti Dotrina Cristiana, ... Impreso en el Convento de S. Pablo de Manila. Por Antonio Damba, i Miguel Saixo, 1621. Lopez had a related work published in 1627 [first written in manuscript in 1620 or 1621] entitled "Arte de la lengua Iloca" first printed in Manila, en el Colegio i Universidad de S. Thomas de Aquino, por Thomas Pinpin, 1627. John Carter Brown Library copy imperfect: first two leaves (the first of which is blank) are fully detached. John Carter Brown Library copy bound in calf skin boards and lack pastedowns. John Carter Brown Library copy has several reference articles on the Ilokano Indians and the pre-hispanic Baybayin script as well as several scraps of 19th century paper found within the manuscript, one of which is dated 1753, and another of which has musical notations, housed in JCB bibliographical file.
