Fernando de Valverde, Santuario de N. Señora de Copacabana en el Peru. Lima, 1641.
Copacabana, on the shore of Lake Titicaca, was a sacred place under the Inca Empire, and equally sacred under Spanish rule as the site of a miraculous image of the Virgin Mary. Augustinian friar Fernando de Valverde produced this poetic account of the pilgrimage center.
