The Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Emergency Medicine of the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and University Emergency Medicine Foundation serves as a leader in advancing the academic components of the mission of the Department, with particular focus on the academic progress of departmental Divisions and faculty members. The Vice Chair oversees and provides mentoring of faculty, fellows, and residents in their academic efforts and provides oversight of the Promotions Committee. The Vice Chair for Academic Affairs works with the Chair, and Vice Chairs for Education and Research to create and oversee professional development programs and identify opportunities for faculty. The Vice Chair also has oversight for Wellness programs and diversity and inclusive for faculty and fellows. The Vice Chair for Academic Affairs will work closely with the Alpert Medical School and national academic organizations such as the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine and Association of American Medical Colleges to identify and implement new methods to promote faculty academic achievement. The Vice Chair will play an important role in faculty and fellow recruitment.

Doctor of Medicine(MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or international equivalent;

At least three years ACGME-approved emergency medicine residency or pediatric emergency medicine fellowship training or qualified through academic practice track;

Board Certified in Emergency Medicine or Pediatric Emergency Medicine;

Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Rhode Island;

Active clinical privileges in Emergency Medicine and/or Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Lifespan hospitals;

Full time contractual agreement with the University Emergency Medicine Foundation;

Full time faculty member in the Department of Emergency Medicine;

Academic appointment at the level of Associate Professor or above in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Warren Alpert School of Medicine of Brown University;

Demonstrated ethical conduct, professionalism, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and management abilities to effectively direct and develop academic physicians and support staff;

Extensive experience in academic emergency medicine practice, education and research; with academic achievement and productivity as evidenced by a combination of scholarship, publications, grant funding, national academic activities, and recognition in academics;

Experience in administration at a unit or departmental level;

Experience in guiding and mentoring junior faculty, fellows, resident physicians and medical students in academic activities;

Ability to build constructive, collaborative academic relationships with other academic departments, units, and programs at medical school, Brown University, government, and national academic organizations;

Commitment to diversity and inclusivity in academic medicine;

Ability to represent and promote Brown Emergency Medicine on a regional and national level;

Ability to communicate clearly in English, verbally and in written form.

Preferred Qualifications:

Administrative and leadership experience in academic medicine preferred.
