As you prepare for the official start of classes in January, the following topics include the most important current financial aid related matters for first-year students.

  1. Check your award and messages - It is important to note that the Office of Financial Aid has made changes to your award dates to reflect the Spring/Summer terms. We have also added important messages in Banner Self Service that should be reviewed as well.

  2. Check your requirements- We may need additional documentation to complete your financial aid application. Please review your requirements and upload any outstanding requirements.

  3. Billing Deadlines - Review the Bursar’s website for updated billing dates and deadlines.

  4. Educational Financing Options - If you have questions regarding your financing options (such as payment plans and loans) to assist in covering the cost of Brown’s education, you can find more information here

  5. Upcoming Communications - Be on the lookout for communication from our office and other offices regarding actionable items that may need to be completed. Some of these items are waiving the Health Insurance (from [email protected]), completing potential loan requirements (from [email protected]), and sibling enrollment verification (from [email protected]).

  6. Book and Course Materials Support Pilot (BCMS) program - Your books will be available to you on the first day of classes with no out of pocket expense to you. All you need to do is use your Brown Student ID at the Brown Bookstore and all required books and materials will be covered.

  7. Student Employment - If you plan to work on campus or need a better understanding of the Federal Work-Study or Campus Employment component of your financial aid award, please review our website for more information.

  8. Outside Scholarships - If you have not done so already, please report any Outside Scholarships you have been awarded to the Office of Financial Aid by using the 2020-21 Outside Scholarship Form

  9. Advancement Survey - While the questions are voluntary and have no bearing on your financial aid, your responses enable the University to best use scholarships for outstanding students like you. Being matched to a donor established scholarship is an honor and provides you with a deeper connection to the Brown community. If you have any questions or issues, please contact [email protected]

  10. Contact Info - As always, feel free to contact us for any questions or to set up a phone appointment [email protected]
