The Fudan Fellows Program invites Brown scholars to travel to Shanghai and conduct research in the humanities or social sciences. Fudan University is a partner of Brown University.
The goals of the Fudan Fellows Program are:
- To promote academic collaboration between Fudan faculty and international scholars;
- To broaden the fellows’ understanding of China and China-related issues; and
- To build a stronger partnership between Brown University and Fudan University.
Brown Faculty at the ranks of Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor are eligible to apply for the program as Fudan Senior Fellows. Browns' postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and undergraduate students are also eligible to apply and will be designated as Fudan Fellows.
All applicants must have an on-going research project and a strong command of Chinese, English, or both. Citizens of China are not eligible to apply.

Fudan Fellows are hosted as visiting scholars by Fudan University for a 2-month OR 4-month period. Fellows are expected to conduct research, present a minimum of two lectures, or host workshops and seminars for students or fellow researchers on campus.
All Fellows will be selected by Fudan University based on the intellectual rationale and significance of the proposed project as well as supporting documentation. In addition, applicants whose research activity while at Fudan is most likely to result in a publication will be given priority. All Fellows will be encouraged to publish an article, crediting the Fudan Fellows program, once the fellowship is completed. A copy of the publication shall be presented and kept by Fudan, with Fellows retaining exclusive rights to their own written scholarly works.
- Accommodation on or near campus will be provided by Fudan for the duration of the fellowship;
- Round trip airfare will be reimbursed upon application by the Fellow; and
- A monthly stipend will be granted, RMB ￥2,400 for Fudan Fellows, and RMB ￥7,000 for Fudan Senior Fellows

Research proposal: narrative explaining the scope of the proposed project, goals, and need to conduct research in Shanghai;
Two letters of Support from the applicant’s department chair or dissertation advisor.
Applications must be submitted to the OGE (FudanFellowsProgram@brown.edu). All funding decisions are made by Fudan University.
Selection Criteria: The OGE will forward all submitted applications to Fudan University, where nominees will be selected by the Fudan Fellows Program Academic Committee. Once all Fellows have been selected, the OGE will inform all applicants of the application outcomes.
