On Staff Development Day, Brown staff invest in their personal and professional growth, increase their knowledge about Brown University, and gain a better understanding of faculty research. Staff Development Day was honored in 2015 with a CASE District 1 award in the Special Events category.

BEAR Day is held annually in February to celebrate years of service and performance excellence. President Paxson recognizes staff who have reached service milestones from 5 through 50 years of service; she also presents Excellence Awards to staff members in the categories of Citizenship, Diversity & Inclusion, Efficiency, Innovation, Leadership, Rising Star, and Service.
Excellence Awards & Service Awards
The Excellence Awards and Service Awards are presented at BEAR Day to recognize staff members, respectively, for their contributions in making Brown University a better place to work and for staff reaching milestones in their Brown careers. Excellence Award winners are chosen by a selection committee representing the diverse Brown community and are announced in early December. Service Awards are given to staff who have reached 5 through 50 years of service to Brown.
