FY20 Staff Salary Increase Process

University Human Resources is pleased to announce that the Corporation approved a 2.75% salary increase pool for Brown University staff at its February 2019 meeting. These funds are primarily used for performance increases, based on overall performance ratings, but can also be used to address equity issues and fund bonuses. University Human Resources will also have central equity and promotion funds that can be used throughout FY20; please refer to the FY20 Central Pool Funding Guidelines below for more details.

Annual performance evaluations are the foundation for determining performance increases. Staff who receive an overall performance rating of exceptional or effective, hold a regular or fixed-term employee appointment, and were hired on or before March 31, 2019, should be considered for a performance increase. Staff who receive an overall performance rating of requires improvement are not eligible for a performance increase.

Performance Increases

With the goal of providing flexibility and reflecting the continuum of performance, managers have discretion in determining performance increases for staff with exceptional or effective overall performance ratings. Increases should always be supported by the annual performance evaluation. Use the guidelines below to determine the distribution of performance increases:
