Put Your Paws to a Cause: Awareness-Level CPR and AED Workshop

Get an awareness-level (the level before certification) lesson in applying Hands-Only CPR. Also known as compression-only CPR, this is a quick way to help if somebody should require CPR. The workshop will also cover awareness-level information about automated external defibrillators, or AEDS, including what they are, what they do and why they are important.

Structural Trades Division Workshop

Swing by Facilities Management and join the Structural Trades team in working on a variety of projects. Help fabricate handmade 5x7" picture frames, laser-engraved to commemorate Staff Development Day 2023 — and take one with you. Sharpen your structural techniques while helping to build a Little Free Library for the Brown Fox Point Early Childhood Education Center. Finally, join Structural Trades Manager Jay Hewitt to reinforce, cast and beautify a variety of objects with two-part epoxy.

Children's Book Drive Volunteer Project

Volunteer to help sort and process books donated to the United Way and Books Are Wings 11th annual Children’s Book Drive, to be distributed to children across the state to prevent summer learning slide and build home libraries. You will check books for damage, organize them by age group and help prepare the books for distribution to educational programs across the state. Wear comfortable, layered clothing and closed-toed shoes and bring your own water bottle and personal care items. A waiver is required. Parking is available on the San Souci and Valley Street side of United Way or in marked spaces at Church of the Master, diagonally across Valley Street. Enter through the main entrance (San Souci Street side).

Helping the Farmer: Volunteer Project at Bami Farm

Volunteer your time to support Bami Farm, a 6-acre community farm in Johnston run by the African Alliance of Rhode Island. Weed the gardens, plant seeds and help with general cleanup and other farm tasks as needed. Wear comfortable, layered clothing and sneakers or work boots and bring your own water bottle and personal care items. Waivers are required. Please note that Bami Farm has a small parking lot; carpooling is recommended.

Volunteer Project at What Cheer Flower Farm

Help out at Cheer Flower Farm, a nonprofit organization that grows and gives away flowers to a network of local organizations, such as hospitals, recovery centers and food pantries. As a volunteer, you'll plant seeds, clean up gardens and build floral bouquets to bring cheer to nursing homes, senior centers and more. Training will be provided. Wear comfortable, layered clothing and sneakers or work boots and bring your own water bottle and personal care items. Waivers are required. Parking is available on site.

Volunteer at the Providence Animal Rescue League

Help your local animal shelter take care of their dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs by volunteering for a variety of tasks. Bag pet food and supplies in their Pet Food Pantry, which provides food to help families keep their pets home with them; help with general housekeeping; make enrichment toys; and lots more!
