Overseeing Brown's compliance with University policies and laws pertaining to discrimination and harassment (the federal Title VI and Title XI laws) and employer discrimination (the Title VII law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex, race, national origin and religion) is one of the core responsibilities of the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity.

Discrimination and unlawful harassment cannot be tolerated in a community committed to maintaining a strong educational, working and living environment. Therefore the University has created guidelines that describe the community standards of conduct and guidelines and procedures for the resolution of grievances/complaints alleging violation of its discrimination and harassment.

Our Discrimination/Harassment and Grievance Policies are intended to provide a fair, prompt, and reliable mechanism for determining whether Brown University’s discrimination and harassment policy has been violated and, if so, to provide appropriate resolution.
