During the comment period for the initial working draft of Pathways to Diversity and Inclusion: An Action Plan for Brown University (shared with the Brown community on November 19, 2015), there were 62 submissions, edits, comments, etc. in the category of inclusion (see the Proposals Received section below listing the input). Appendix D of the final DIAP summarizes how the University addressed this input in the final revisions to the DIAP.

Students, in particular, expressed a desire to create student-elected positions on the Corporation of Brown University, to have established and regular meetings with the University chancellor, and to form a body of graduate student representatives to serve on the Diversity & Inclusion Oversight Committee (DIOC).

Proposals Received: Governance

  • Establish monthly, two-hour office hours with the University chancellor throughout the academic year.
  • Create a student- and faculty-elected trustee position on the Corporation.
  • Identify and select graduate-student representatives to serve on the Diversity & Inclusion Oversight Committee (DIOC) in consultation with the Concerned Graduate Students of Color (CGSOC) working group.
