Brown Medical School was chosen by the Dean of Medicine at National Cheng Kung University College of Medicine (NCKU) as the model for the NCKU College of Medicine. This, in conjunction with strong individual faculty ties as well as increased demands from Brown medical students for a Taiwan medical elective opportunity, led to the development of the exchange program.
- Student and faculty exchange agreement, based in Brown’s Warren Alpert Medical School, was originally signed in 2008, and was renewed in 2011. The program allows for exchanges of medical students and faculty, and joint research collaboration.
- The local Chinese-American community provides funding for this exchange through the Luke Charitable Trust Foundation. The funds cover travel, housing and board for 4 NCKU medical students/year and an equivalent number of PLME/Brown Medical students.
