Workshop: “Teaching Literature in Translation” Wednesday, October 2nd 4-5:30pm Sheridan Center (96 Waterman) Led by Professor Meera Viswanathan (Comparative Literature), this workshop will explore approaches to teaching literature in translation. Topics to be discussed include how we might deal with the convergence of literature, language, culture; the challenges posed in teaching a text for those reading it in translation alongside those reading it in the original; the issues associated with teaching a translated text from a little-known language/cultural tradition/time period; and finally the problems of literary translation generally. The workshop is aimed primarily at graduate students, but postdocs and faculty are welcome to attend. The session is part of the Fall 2013 Workshop Series on Teaching Literature, sponsored by the Sheridan Center. RSVP to reserve a place at this session.
