Staff Spotlight: Nick Dow

Nick Dow, Athletic Communications Assistant

How long you have been at Brown and what do you do here?

I have worked at Brown for the last six years in the communications office within athletics. I act as the primary communications contact for a number of our teams with duties that include writing recaps and releases for, tracking statistics at games, and assisting in social media efforts. I feel very fortunate to work in such a fun environment and to be able to have a front row seat at so many Brown athletic events.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

Getting a chance to play a small role in the championship experiences of some of our student-athletes is one of the best parts of my job – not so much just because of the competitive success alone (though that certainly is a positive!) but more so seeing the sense of pride in our student-athletes, knowing that they have accomplished a team goal that they set out to achieve together. With teams that I have worked with during my time at Brown, women’s crew, women’s soccer, and men’s water polo have all made appearances at the NCAA Championships, and women’s basketball earned a spot in the inaugural Ivy League Tournament.

What have you enjoyed most about working at Brown?

The people at Brown are tremendous. I feel grateful to have such terrific colleagues – both fellow staff members and coaches. Moreover, student-athletes at Brown are really impressive individuals that make our jobs great. My fellow members of Pizzitola Suite 204 – and beyond – have played a huge part in my development and in helping make my time at Brown very memorable.

How has Brown had an impact on you?

My colleagues at Brown and the student-athletes that I have worked with have made a much greater impact on me than I ever could on them. Particularly in sports that I have had an opportunity to travel with, it has been a great experience to get to know those student-athletes better and help to tell their stories. Brown also gave me the chance to earn a master’s degree here through the Employee Education Program – an opportunity that I will be forever grateful for. I owe a big thank you to so many at Brown for having such a significant impact on me!
