Scott Helfrich Joins Residential Life as Director of Upper-Division Houses

Scott Helfrich will be joining Residential Life on October 4 as the Director of Upper-Division Houses where he will bring a relational, strategic, and coordinated approach to the administration and management of the Upper-Division Houses. Scott will lead a team of five -- the Residential Coordinator and four Area Coordinators -- in delivering an intentional residential experience that is aligned with Brown’s Liberal Learning Goals for the Open Curriculum. Scott will report to the Senior Associate Dean and Senior Director of Residential Life. 
Scott will be joining us from Columbia University where he has served as an Associate Director Residential Life since 2005. In his time at Columbia, Scott created and implemented the Columbia 101 extended orientation series of programs targeted at all new students and developed the first bias response protocol for the university residence halls. Prior to his work at Columbia, Scott served as a Residence Hall Director at Cornell University. Scott holds a bachelor’s in History from Misericordia University (formerly College Misericordia) and a master’s in Higher Education from the University of Rochester. Scott is completing a doctorate in Adult Learning and Leadership at Teachers College, Columbia University.
