Mikele St-Germain Joins Campus Life as Director of Parent & Family Engagement

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mikele St-Germain as the Director of Parent & Family Engagement. This new role is charged with developing a strategic approach to building connections with parents and families and providing opportunities for positive engagement.  She will begin on September 20, 2021.

Mikele started her career at Brown in 2009 as a Scheduler in the former department of Summer & Continuing Studies and has been a member of the University Event and Conference Services office within Facilities Management since its inception in 2010.  She held a number of positions within Event Management and, in 2015, was named Associate Director.  As Associate Director, Mikele built a highly respected team of Event professionals dedicated to the strategic management of conferences, lectures, and third-party business. During her tenure, she has had direct oversight of annual University-sponsored events including Convocation, Family Weekend, Mid-Year Completion, and Commencement, an event that includes 50+ ceremonies and typically draws over 10,000 alumni, families, and guests each year. Other highlights of her event work include Brown's 250+ Anniversary Celebration, the Inauguration of President Christina H. Paxson, the Achebe Colloquium on Africa, the Casey Shearer Memorial Lecture series, the [email protected] Celebration, the university’s successful attempt at breaking a Guinness World Record, and “A Conversation with Jessica Meir ‘99” broadcast live from the International Space Station.

In 2018, Mikele was awarded Brown University’s Excellence Award in Leadership, and in January of 2020, she was appointed Interim Director following the retirement of former Director Julie Haworth. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she has implemented tools and procedures to facilitate virtual and hybrid events, shared best practices with event-producing staff across campus, and worked to ensure in-person events are conducted with careful attention to health and safety protocols.  To assist with the new challenges of producing virtual and hybrid ceremonies, she helped to found the Ivy+ Commencement group with peers across the Ivy League.

Prior to her arrival at Brown in 2009, Mikele worked extensively in the travel and tourism industry, overseeing the management of executive travel for Collette Tours, Textron, and other corporate clients.  Mikele holds both an MBA and a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Rhode Island.
