Class of 2017 graduates Adriel Barrios-Anderson, a neuroscience and science and society concentrator, and Viet Nguyen, an education concentrator, will reflect on their Brown experiences with their speeches “Silent Lessons” and “The Idea of Deserving.” at Brown’s 249th Commencement.
Unlike most colleges and universities, Brown does not invite Commencement speakers for the College Ceremony. On the College Green on Commencement morning, two members of the senior class, selected by a faculty committee, deliver short orations. The Graduate Student Council selects student speakers for the Graduate School ceremonies. The Medical School invites a speaker to address its graduating class in the First Unitarian Church.
