Name: Nelson, Jessica

Area of interest: Area of interest: Historical archaeology in North America,
particularly focusing on Dutch colonial contexts. I am interested in
domestic sites, trade, historic ceramics, and expressions of identity
in the colony and the homeland.  My dissertation explores the
emergence of a Dutch national identity in the Dutch Republic in the
17th century and discusses how this identity changes and intensifies
in the Dutch Atlantic colonies of New Netherland and St. Eustatius,
using surviving historical, cultural, and archaeological materials.
