Brown University's Open Graduate Program pilot project allows select Brown doctoral students to pursue a master's degree in a secondary field. All doctoral students are invited to contemplate and propose their own combination of studies, free of any disciplinary barrier. Unveiled in October 2011, the project builds on the traditions of free inquiry and collaborative research at Brown. It aims to align the training of doctoral students more closely with the spirit of Brown's Open Curriculum for undergraduates, a cornerstone of the University's pedagogy. It is the University's hope that the initiative will further catalyze interdisciplinary research and prepare students for the competitive demands of the job market.
