The Association of Women in Mathematics Chapter at the Division of Applied Mathematics was founded in the Fall of 2013 by graduate student Amanda Howard and Professor Kavita Ramanan.  The Chapter's mission is to encourage woman and underrepresented minorities at Brown University to develop their mathematical talent, and to help them attain their full potential in academic and intellectual pursuits in the mathematical sciences.  The Brown AWM Student Chapter has since evolved into a vibrant organization that engages in a wide variety of activities, including organizing panels, arranging seminars and hosting invited speakers. They helped arranged the WINRS conference which saw over a 100 participants.  In 2017, the Brown Student Chapter received the inaugural AWM Student Chapter Award for Scientific Excellence.   The Chapter is open to all members, regardless of gender identity.
