The administration of Brown University, in consultation with Brown's Graduate School, has instructed doctoral programs in the humanities and social sciences to temporarily suspend graduate admissions. The Joukowsky Institute thus regrets to announce that applications for the doctoral program in Archaeology and the Ancient World cannot be accepted for the coming academic year.

This difficult decision was made so that the university can allocate all necessary resources to support current students struggling with the challenges presented by the global pandemic. We welcome this level of commitment to graduate students and programs on the part of the University, while we also recognize that this pause in admissions will present its own challenges for those who had hoped to begin doctoral study in Fall 2021. Students are a fundamental and integral part of our research, community, and identity, and we look forward to resuming admissions next year. In the meantime, we encourage prospective applicants to take advantage of the numerous events online, and to stay informed about the University's future decisions and keep in touch with the Institute and our faculty by following our website and social media.
