Mary Beaudry

It is with great sadness that we have learned that our friend and colleague Professor Mary Beaudry has passed away. A long-time Professor of Archaeology and Anthropology as well as of Gastronomy at Boston University, Mary was a leading historical archaeologist, whose research on foodways, cultural contact, and colonialism earned her the J.C. Harrington Medal in Historical Archaeology in 2013. Mary was a doctoral graduate of Brown University ('80), where she studied with James Deetz in the Department of Anthropology. These long-standing ties to Brown, her deep knowledge of the field, and her unflagging support of the Joukowsky Institute made her an invaluable part of the Institute's Advisory Board, of which she was a member since its inception in 2015.  Mary's perceptive comments and her efforts to help the students, faculty, and work of the Institute and the field of archaeology will be sorely missed.

The Department of Anthropology at Boston University will be organizing events in her memory in the near future.
