Pınar graduated from Bilkent University's Archaeology Department in 2010 with High Honors. As an undergraduate, she interned at the Anatolian Civilizations Museum in Ankara, and worked at Kinet Höyük and Hacimusalar Höyük excavations. In 2012 she received her M.A. in Archaeology and Archaeological Sciences from Koc University's Anatolian Civilizations and Cultural Heritage Management Program. Pınar joined Brown University in 2012 as a Fulbright grantee. For the summer of 2013 she was a member of the Brown University's Yalburt Yaylası project. Recently she has been involved in projects that integrate archaeology, archaeological heritage, and museum studies -- including internships with the Giza Archives Project/Harvard University and University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. She is also actively involved in museum education at the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology. Pinar was the 2016-17 fellow of AIA’s Harriet and Leon Pomerance Fellowship, which funded her dissertation research. Her dissertation examines change and continuity in Bronze Age Anatolian cemeteries by looking at landscape, mortuary rituals, and memories. Pinar’s research interests include bioarchaeology, death and dying, landscape archaeology, the prehistory of ancient Near East and the Aegean, as well as museum studies and public archaeology. She is teaching “Interactions with the Dead: Past and Present” as a Deans' Faculty Fellow in Spring 2018.
