The eighth volume in the Joukowsky Institute Publication (JIP) series, Antiquarianisms: Contact, Conflict, Comparison, edited by Benjamin Anderson and Felipe Rojas, is available from Oxbow Books.

Spring/Summer Issue of "Inventory"
The latest issue of "Inventory", the newsletter of the Joukowsky Institute, is now available online, with stories on two workshops organized by the Joukowsky Institute – one in Bogotá, organized by faculty member Felipe Rojas, and another in Providence, organized by graduate students in Archaeology and Anthropology; Professor Yannis Hamilakis’s impressions of his first year at Brown University; and the successful completion of two Joukowsky Institute students’ doctorates (and three undergraduate honors theses); as well as Institute Director Peter van Dommelen’s thoughts on the many new arrivals, bittersweet departures, and activism of the Institute and our community.

JIAAW's Kathryn McBride successfully defended her doctoral dissertation, "The Social Life of Coins: Local Reactions to Roman Imperialism beyond the Frontier," on Tuesday, April 11th.
Durgun Awarded Deans' Faculty Fellowship
JIAAW's Pinar Durgun is one of five Deans’ Faculty Fellows for 2017-2018, and will be a Visiting Assistant Professor of Archaeology at Brown University in Spring 2018. She'll be teaching a course called "Interactions with the Dead: In the Past and Present."
Plekhov Wins 2017 SAA Poster Award
Congratulations to JIAAW doctoral student Daniel Plekhov, who won this year's Society for American Archaeology Student Poster Award, with his co-author Elic M. Weitzel (University of Connecticut Anthropology), for their poster, "Contact-Period Settlement Changes in Eastern North America: A Test of the Ideal Free and Ideal Despotic Distribution Models."

JIAAW offers three prizes to honor undergraduate students who have shown great accomplishment in the study of archaeology through their writing. Submission deadline May 8, 2017 at noon.

The Journal of Roman Archaeology and the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World at Brown University announce a new partnership, which will consolidate and build on our respective strengths: as a primary forum for research and debate in Roman Archaeology, and as a leading center for training and research in Mediterranean Archaeology.
