Koen Bulckens received his BA (2010) and MA (2011) in Art History and Archeology at the Free University of Brussels. He minored in philosophy and graduated with a thesis that contrasted the notions of authorship in the historiographies of Rubens and Rembrandt. Koen worked at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp as a research curator (2011-2015), where he wrote a volume in the Corpus Rubenianum, a catalog raisonné of Rubens’ oeuvre. At Brown, Koen will investigate Rubens’ workshop from a variety of angles. His research interests include painting materials and techniques, apprenticeship and collaboration, workshop architecture, and art theory.
