Matthew studies the history of photography. While his research interests span the history of the medium, Matthew has a particular interest in the modes and methods by which photography was disseminated and experienced in the 19th century. Before coming to study at Brown, Matthew worked as a Curatorial Assistant in the Photography Department at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2015-2019) and as a Graduate Intern in the Department of Photographs at the J. Paul Getty Museum (2014-2015). He has also held positions at the Clark Art Institute and the Art Institute of Chicago. Matthew holds an M.A from the Graduate Program in the History of Art at Williams College (2014) and a B.A. from Northwestern University (2012).
