Description

The Biostatistics Core provides design, analysis and data management expertise for LCC investigators, and ensures that statistical analyses are designed and customized to address specific hypotheses being addressed.  The Biostatistics Core is staffed by 3 faculty from the Department of Biostatistics at the School of Public Health and includes support for a masters-level statistician and for a data manager.  The core is designed such that each LCC investigator has a lead faculty collaborator; however, the collective expertise of all core members will be available to all projects.

Goals

Provide project-specific, faculty-level collaboration to LCC investigators on issues related to study design and statistical analysis of project-specific data.  Participate in the writing of abstracts and manuscripts, focusing on description of statistical methods, inferential results, and interpretation of findings in context. To ensure quality control and reproducibility of all data analyses by creating and maintaining project-specific archives that contain:  a final analysis database; the programs used for transformation of variables, including combinations of items into scales; data analysis (written as scripts for the appropriate software package), and subsequent versions of abstracts and manuscripts. To provide support for creation, maintenance and expansion of project-specific databases, to provide support for converting databases between platforms (e.g. from ACCESS to SAS or R); and to maintain a centralized database. To provide biostatistics and study design support for pilot studies and new investigations. As needed, develop new and innovative methodology related to experimental design or statistical analysis.
