Dear Colleagues:

It is a great pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Murray Resnick, MD, PhD as Vice Chair for Translational Research in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Dr. Resnick is currently the Directory of Anatomic and Gastrointestinal Pathology and Vice-Chief of Pathology at the Rhode Island and Miriam Hospitals. He serves as Director of the Molecular Pathology core facility of the COBRE Center for Cancer Research and is Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medicine School at Brown University.

Dr. Resnick’s own research interests are in the general field of biomarkers of neoplastic and non-neoplastic gastrointestinal diseases. Recent foci of interest include the identification of novel diagnostic markers of eosinophilic esophagitis and characterization of the immune and stromal microenvironment in colorectal and breast tumors. Dr. Resnick has expertise in the utilization of image analysis and artificial intelligence in surgical and experimental pathology.

Dr. Resnick is active in several international and national pathology organizations including chairing the Publications Committee of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology and serves on council of Association of Directors of Anatomic Pathology. He serves on the editorial board of several leading pathology journals including laboratory Investigation, Modern Pathology, and Human Pathology.

As Vice Chair for Translational Research, Dr. Resnick will identify, foster and support opportunities to enhance the translation of basic science discoveries toward clinical relevance. Specifically, he will serve as a liaison between basic science faculty, largely but not exclusively based at the University, with clinical faculty based in the Departments of Pathology at the affiliated hospitals. He will work on forging collaborative projects which will lead to greater funding opportunities and strengthening of the academic mission of our Department and the Medical School.

Please join us in welcoming Murray to this critical new role.

Sincerely,

Jake Kurtis, MD, PhD
