This condition is also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. In this photo, both lobes of the thyroid are replaced by fleshy white tissue which has a nodular appearance.

(Left): There is a prominent interstitial lymphoid infiltrate. The thyroid follicular cells show prominent oncocytic change. (Right): High power view showing deeply eosinophilic cytoplasm in the oncocytic cells together with enlarged hyperchromatic nuclei.
