Krukenberg tumor
Krukenberg tumors of the ovaries are characterized by mucin-laden, signet-ring cells within ovarian stroma. The source of Krukenberg tumors in great majority of cases is gastric carcinoma, especially from the pylorus. (Figure 1A: H&E stain and Inset 1B: ABPAS stain.
Other primary sources of Krukenberg tumors of the ovaries include colon and breast not uncommonly. Rare sources are gallbladder, biliary tract, cervix, and urinary bladder. (Figure 1A: H&E stain and Inset 1B: Mucicarmine stain).
