Honeycomb Lung
This section of lung is from a patient with longstanding sarcoidosis and obstructive lung disease. See invasive aspergillosis for more history of this patient. It shows extensive interstitial fibrosis, cystic spaces, and areas of emphysema. Elsewhere sections from this patient showed old fibrosed non-necrotizing granulomas.
Honeycomb lung represents end stage lung disease. In itself it is nonspecific. It can be the end stage of various interstitial and/or obstructive lung diseases. In this case the patient had an interstitial lung disease (sarcoidosis) and chronic obstructive lung disease.
