Endolymphatic stromal myosis (from uterus)
This is a tumor in the myometrium which represents a malignancy of endometrial stroma (see the female reproductive – uterine fundus section on this website).
Endolymphatic stromal myosis is regarded as less malignant than the usual endometrial stromal sarcoma but a substantial proportion of patients (50% in one study) will develop recurrences after the initial surgery and distant metastases can occur. Fortunately, some tumors are positive for estrogen and progesterone receptors and respond to hormonal therapy.
