Robert Gutierrez was a first-generation undergraduate at Santa Barbara City College when he discovered the Leadership Alliance. After spending two summers in research labs at Brown, Gutierrez transferred to a four-year college, graduated and enrolled in Brown's doctoral program in biomedical engineering, where he is completing his Ph.D.
