Chemistry is a fascinating discipline that provides an essential link between the deep mysteries of fundamental science and everyday life. Research and teaching in Chemistry at Brown stretches from exploring physical phenomena of individual molecules, to creating new molecules, to material science, and indeed to the foundations of life.
Here at Brown, the Department of Chemistry reflects this profound importance and diversity by offering excellent research opportunities and teaching in areas including organic and inorganic chemistry, chemical biology, materials chemistry, nanochemistry and theoretical and experimental physical chemistry. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in research in molecular biology, chemical engineering, or in the interdisciplinary Institute for Molecular and Nanoscale Innovation. Our faculty student ratio is approximately 3:1 with most research groups numbering no more than 6 graduate students.
