On May 7, 2019, the department held its annual Award Ceremony. The ceremony highlights excellence in research, teaching, mentorship, coursework, and service to the department among our students, faculty, and staff.

FRESHMAN CHEMISTRY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
This award is presented to the student who achieves the highest grade in each section of CHEM0330 during the academic year.

THE WILLIAM T. KING PRIZE
The King Prize recognizes superior performance as a teaching assistant during the academic year. The prize is awarded annually to graduate students whose efforts as a teacher and facilitator of chemical learning go beyond normal expectations.

SIGMA XI AWARD
The Sigma Xi Award for Excellence in Graduate Research recognizes outstanding research accomplishments during a graduate student's career. Students in their last year of graduate study are eligible.

THE ELAINE CHASE AWARD FOR LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE
The Chase Award recognizes the students whose extraordinary leadership and service contributions during their years at Brown improved the department or the academic and educational experiences of all graduate students.
2019 Recipient: Michelle Muzzio
Additionally, the department awards an annual Wernig Fellowship to a rising fifth-year graduate student who has shown excellence in research as evidenced by publications, conference participation or other research accomplishments. The 2019 awardee is Hua Zhu (Professor Ou Chen).
