Classics Grad Student, Erika Valdivieso, Wins J.M. Stuart Fellowship

Congratulations to Classics graduate student, Erika Valdivieso, on winning the J.M. Stuart Fellowship Award from the John Carter Brown Library!  According to the JCB website:

"Among Brown University’s most prestigious honors for doctoral candidates is the J. M. Stuart Fellowship, which is open to Brown Ph.D. students in the Humanities or Social Sciences whose dissertation topic relates to the early history and culture of the Americas and whose research and writing would benefit from privileged and sustained access to the resources of the John Carter Brown Library, one of the world’s most renowned collections of early Americana."

Valdivieso.jpgErika, who is in her 4th year in the Classics PhD program, credits Brown’s JCB Library as an important factor in deciding to come to Brown for her PhD.  Her dissertation explores the connection between “New World contexts, education, and imitation in Latin poetry from Spanish America and Brazil.”

You can read more about her Fellowship on the Brown Graduate School website, where the story first appeared.
