Greek Consul Visits Brown

Stratos Efthymios at the dedication to Gridley Howe on the Main Green

On Tuesday May 8, 2019, the Greek Consul, Stratos Efthymiou, based in Boston, made an informal visit to Brown for discussions with Elsa Amanatidou, Director of the Modern Greek Studies program, and the Classics Department. Whilst on campus, he was able to visit the Hay Library to see the portrait of Gridley Howe, an American who played an important role in the Greek War of Independence. Thanks to Tim Engels and Peter Harrington at the Hay for facilitating the Consul’s visit to the collections. The Consul also took pictures of the dedication on the main green at the base of the campus flagpole (pictured) which includes a dedication to Howe.
