Carly's Experience Abroad

Q: What do you miss about your time abroad?
A: I absolutely feel in love with Italian culture. From the little things like buying my groceries from little produce carts and making ragu Bolognese, to chatting with the locals in the piazza, to experiencing beautiful works of art, I had a wonderful time.  So, I would have to say I miss the pace of Italian life, or at least my life while in Italy, and the opportunity to experience a different culture.

Q: Why did you decide to study abroad?
A: I wanted to go abroad, because I love to travel and see how different cultures live.  I wanted to expand my understanding of the world, and learn what it would be like to live in a different country.  Traveling, to me, is an amazing privilege and I wanted to take advantage of the studying abroad opportunity!

Q: If you were planning to study abroad again, where would you go?
A: Hmmm this is tough because I really loved Italy and I continue to think about it everyday.  I could have easily done a year there instead of just a semester.  However, I would enjoy studying in another country too, perhaps India or Africa.

Q: What was your favorite food/recipe abroad?
A: Bologna is the food capital of Italy, so food was definitely a highlight of my trip! I took cooking classes, in order to recreate some of my favorite dishes like pumpkin tortelloni and ragu Bolognese.  I must say that my favorite dish would be anything with truffles!

Q: What did you miss about Brown while you were abroad?
A: Warm gooey meeting street cookies.
