Rhode Island Urban Debate League (RIUDL)

The Rhode Island Urban Debate League (RIUDL–pronounced "riddle") is a social justice organization. We use policy debate as a strategy to fight educational inequity. Working in partnership with Rhode Island’s urban high schools and the Swearer Center for Public Service at Brown University, the RIUDL is a non-profit organization serving over 100 students each year from Central Falls, Pawtucket, Providence, and Woonsocket.

Part of a national network of Urban Debate Leagues, the RIUDL supports debate teams in nine high schools across the state and facilitates local and travel tournaments, college preparation workshops, and a two-week summer debate institute. College student volunteers partner with high school teachers to coach twice weekly after school and at monthly Saturday tournaments, serving as role models and mentors for RIUDL debaters.
