Stacy Kastner, PhD
Associate Director

Stacy received her B.A. and M.A. in English from St. Bonaventure University and her Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Writing from Bowling Green State University. She served as an Assistant Professor of English and Associate Director of the Writing Center at Mississippi State University before joining Writing Support Programs at Brown. Stacy’s work here centers on the Writing Fellows program, the Writing Center, the Writing Check, and Excellence at Brown. Her research exploring autobiographical identity formation of the writer; teacher training and the development of counter-classroom, research-responsive, and cross-disciplinary pedagogies; and the political, ideological, and personal dimensions of literacy acquisition has been published in the CEA Forum, Feminist Teacher, Pedagogy, and in the Conference Proceedings for the American Association of Engineering Education.

Austin Jackson, Ph.D. 
Assistant Director, The Writing Center 

Dr. Austin Jackson is Assistant Director of The Writing Center and Visiting Assistant Professor in the Nonfiction Writing Program. Austin completed a B.A. in English/Liberal Arts at Norfolk State University. He then earned an M.A. in Critical Studies in the Teaching of English and a Ph.D. in African American and African Studies at Michigan State University.  

Austin’s teaching and research areas include rhetoric and composition, critical literacy, and qualitative research in English education. His original research has been published by National Council of Teachers of English Press/RoutledgeThe International Journal of Africana Studies, Reading Research Quarterly, The Black Scholar, American Language Review, and Stanford University’s Black Arts Quarterly. In 2014, Bedford/St. Martin’s Press published his co-edited anthology, Students’ Right to Their Own Language: A Critical Sourcebook
