Located in the heart of Olneyville, D'Abate Elementary School is one of the Swearer Center's many community partners. Through the Brown Elementary After-School Mentoring program, Brown students help provide after-school activities, tutoring, and summer camps to the students at D'Abate. Aided by a federal 21st Century Learning Center Grant, the Swearer Center has been able to support and even expand programming, facilitating the engagement of more than 200 Brown University students at D'Abate each academic year. This video is a conversation with Amy Lopes, a fifth grade teacher at D'Abate, about her approach to teaching and the unique way D'Abate operates as a community school.
