Swearer Center Director Roger Nozaki was recently honored with a Teaching and Advising Award from the Academics and Administrative Affairs (AAA) committee of the Undergraduate Council of Students. Every year, the committee solicits nominations from the undergraduate student body through an all campus email for professors and teaching assistants who've demonstrated an outstanding commitment to student advising and mentorship. In Dean Nozaki's multiple nominations, students described him as both a passionate professor and a compassionate advisor. Students said that he taught a class that "was the highlight of their 17 years of education," and that "he leads by example in his commitment to advancing public service at Brown."

Alan Harlam, Director of Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship at the Swearer Center, also received Dell's "Outstanding Leadership" Award by student nomination this month. Alan launched the Social Innovation Initiative, which has expanded Brown’s curricular and extra-curricular resources for social entrepreneurs. In a nomination, one student remarked: “Alan is incredibly supportive of students. He provides amazing advice and is building a culture of social innovation at Brown.”
