Michael Grenier AY2018-19
B.M. Jazz Performance 2018, University of Rhode Island / B.A. Philosophy 2018, University of Rhode Island
Beginning his professional life as a saxophonist and transforming into an academic writer, Mike has spent his life dedicated to learning as much as possible about the underlying features of our social world. Graduating from North Kingstown High School in 2012, he attended the University of Rhode Island pursing both a jazz performance degree and a philosophy degree. During this time he performed three times at the Newport Jazz Festival, once in a supporting band for pop star Jamie Cullum, and had multiple performances at the US Navy International Saxophone Symposium. He also studied radical philosophy and logic at the University of Reading, United Kingdom.
Mike hopes to one day teach at a university while also acting as a public advocate for opportunities in education as well as the arts and humanities. He serves with the College Advising Corps because he sees the clear need to ensure all students have access to higher education so as to best put a strong foot forward on the long road ahead. A first-generation college graduate himself, he firmly believes it is imperative that we give students the best chance to succeed.
