Where is home to you? Houma, LA (south of New Orleans, if you can imagine it)

B.A. English and Religion 2014, Wheaton College (IL)
M.Div 2017, Duke University

As a manager for community-engaged learning, Austin supports the Swearer Center's efforts to build a culture of democratic engagement across Brown's campus, including managing the Brown Votes initiative. He also manages Swearer's Social Innovation Fellowship for students interested in exploring community-based innovations that address critical issues in our society.

Austin received his M.Div from Duke in 2017, where he was first introduced to the practice and power of community organizing through volunteering with the Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC). From there, he worked with Resourceful Communities to support grassroots organizations addressing food security and environmental justice in rural North Carolina. Most recently, he worked down the hill at Social Enterprise Greenhouse (SEG), where he managed SEG's university partnerships and led other initiatives focused on community economic development in RI.

When he's not at Swearer, Austin is probably reading, working on music, or exploring New England.
