B.A. Spanish 2015, Northeastern University
As one of the Swearer Center’s Staff Assistants on the Operations Unit, Rebecca works to support all staff throughout the Center. She provides general support to the daily functions of the center along with specific program needs. Rebecca supports the Center’s director with special projects and scheduling. Through research and collaboration she helps organize events for students, staff, alumni and donors.
Rebecca holds a B.A. in Spanish Literature and Culture from Northeastern University in Boston. After graduating she moved to Providence and has found a deep connection with its community. Before joining the Swearer Center, she worked as Assistant Director of a non profit summer camp for kids, where she found her passion for administrative and project management work.
Rebecca grew up in a family of parents from the Dominican Republic and from upstate New York. She lived in Puerto Plata, DR for 5 years before coming to the United States where her family settled in Long Island, New York. In 2010, due to financial trials, her family was pushed to leave their home and move in with family. Both of her parents were challenged with unemployment for years and have worked hard to reclaim stability. The most profound lesson that she continues to reflect on from the experience is acknowledging the resilience of all people and what an important role community has in supporting its members.
"To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." - Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)
