Jacqueline Agustin is a senior at Brown University concentrating in Health and Human Biology with a focus on Brain Health and Behavior. As a first-generation college student, she cares deeply about providing access to higher education to low income families. She has interned at Raising a Reader, an organization that is focused on supporting low-income families develop helpful reading routines with their children and on-campus she is a Research Assistant for Brown's Education Department. Jacqueline spent this past summer interning at the DC Department of Employment Services (DOES), through the Brown in Washington Summer Fellowship program. There, she worked on two major projects that focused on finding a pathway to employment for young people throughout the District. She looks forward to continuing her work at DOES in the coming semester with a sharpened focus on local government and understanding how the department engages with and provides assistance to DC residents. Jacqueline has deep familial roots in Oaxaca, Mexico and her family hails from an indigenous community whose language she hopes to learn someday as a way to learn more about her heritage. In her free time, she enjoys drawing and journaling.
